The Challenge

Stadler Form’s web shop requires a lot of resources to ensure that it runs as quickly as customers – and the company itself – want it to. The customer or user experience is particularly important, which is why Stadler Form did not want to compromise on performance. However, the company was not only looking for a partner with excellent performance, but also one that would offer the best possible support, in case of any problems.

The Solution

We listened to Stadler Form’s needs and put together the best possible solution. The server provided by us offers sufficient resources for strong performance and allows the use of up-to-date and performance-enhancing caching technologies. At the same time, Stadler Form migrated their DNS to Cloudflare, resulting in a much more reliable DNS solution.

The Result

Stadler Form has not yet been one of our customers for a very long time, but what the two parties have experienced together so far has been excellent. The technical solution is working very well, performance has improved significantly and all support cases have been resolved quickly, to the complete satisfaction of Stadler Form and with a high level of expertise on our part.

«The hosting switch to Nine was a complete success: our online shop performs much better and our customers can look forward to a much better online experience.»

Unifits

From Google Cloud to Nine Kubernetes Engine

Nine contributed consulting and implementation services as well as support to this project. The customer felt that all necessary tasks were implemented promptly and competently. The switch from a traditional server architecture to NKE went smoothly and now enables Unifits to operate securely, while benefitting from substantially lower maintenance costs.

The Challenge

Unifits had been operating an in-house application for a renown Swiss bank on physical and virtual servers managed by Nine for several years. However, as the operating system was slowly approaching its EOL date, the servers needed to be replaced or modernised. Unifits also saw optimisation potential in the area of software provision and delivery, as well as in the maintenance of required software packages such as Java. The bank demanded that the highest security standards be met and that any data must be stored within Switzerland. Traditional cloud providers such as Google, AWS or Azure were therefore out of question.

The Solution

After only a few kick-off calls about requirements, consultations with Nine experts and regular alignments, Unifits swiftly decided to go for Nine Managed Kubernetes Engine (NKE). Nine’s expertise and flexibility enabled Unifits to quickly implement a proof of concept, set up a test system and finally, to migrate their production environment to the new platform. As part of the project, database client certificates were introduced, which additionally strengthened data security to the desired level.

The Result

The new NKE platform enables Unifits to add flexibility to their application and to scale it easily when needed. In addition, the GitOps approach means that configuration changes require far less effort and can be tracked in their entirety, thus reducing workload and saving costs. Installing new versions is easier, as the deployment of custom programmes is now fully automated. In addition, Unifits can check the status of their application more quickly and easily and view any anonymised logs. Without cyclical operating system changes on physical and virtual servers, testing and migration efforts in this area are eliminated, which leads to further savings.

«I would like to thank the whole Nine team. Their support during the migration was excellent. Thanks to their flexibility, we were able to complete the PROD deployment in a very short time.»

The Challenge

Comerge develops software for a multitude of customers and industries, some of whom require high availability due to the critical nature of their business. A main concern for Comerge was that they wanted a container platform that could scale globally and reliably, while allowing them to focus on delivering applications to their customers without needing to operate the underlying infrastructure.

The Solution

As a long-time customer of Nine, Comerge has trusted Nine’s technical expertise when it comes to cloud environments, especially in container management. As such, Nine helped Comerge to make the most of Nine’s managed GKE as their container platform. This involved both the provision of Nine’s managed Kubernetes software stack, and guidance on how to use the platform to its full potential.

The Result

Comerge can now focus on delivering applications for their customers, be it in Switzerland or in other GCP locations. The service stack that Nine provides and maintains on top of GKE allows Comerge to easily deploy, and observe the performance of, their applications without the need to manage them. This means that Comerge can focus on development and deployment alone.

«Nine helps us to succeed, we feel on the same side. It’s a pleasure to work with Nine.»

The Challenge

Clientis banks are characterised by their regional focus and their perceived proximity to customers. Clientis has gained the trust of its clients through a transparent and solid approach to the banking business. To further strengthen this trust, the company strives to comply with regulations, such as those of FINMA, as quickly, sustainably and securely as possible. As a competence and service centre for its 15 banks, Clientis AG needs solutions that function equally well for all members of the Group, and for any decisions. Thus, multiple aspects had to be considered with regard to the FINMA guidelines published in Circular 08/7 ‘Outsourcing for Banks’.

The Solution

Clientis AG not only sought a reliable hosting provider for a successful partnership, but was also interested in further cooperation regarding this hosting relationship. Here, the aforementioned FINMA guidelines were to be satisfied within the framework of an ISO 27001 certification. The Managed Cloud provider was to meet FINMA’s requirements (as outlined in Circular 08/7 ‘Outsourcing for Banks’), work with the internet agency Liip AG and guarantee a location in Switzerland.

The Result

There is a growing trend towards certified hosting solutions located in Switzerland – as this is the only way to comply with the guidelines. With its ISO 27001 certification, attained in 2016, and the usage of a certified data processing centre, Nine can guarantee complete information security. The company’s secure process meets the criteria of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority in full. As Nine has worked with Clientis since 2012, the hosting provider was already familiar with the Clientis setup. Choosing Liip AG as the internet agency supported the project’s success, as Nine and Liip had already collaborated successfully on numerous projects in the past. Nine’s ISO-27001-certified data processing centre is located in Switzerland and goes beyond merely fulfilling certification requirements. Rather, it meets the high European standard, including from an infrastructural point of view.

«From our point of view, the realization of the new hosting solution ran perfectly; with Nine, we had a very cooperative, proactive and responsive partner. Our requirements were and continue to be readily understood and implemented.»

Managed Cluster – stability for e-commerce price comparison

On comparis.ch, users can compare anything, from health care schemes and insurance policies to banks, real estate and vehicles. The company would like to extend its offering by an e-commerce price comparison tool, allowing users to also benefit from comparing different offers when shopping online.

Industry

Website
Date
October 2021

The Challenge

Users both know and value the services provided by the existing online platform. All comparisons can be made quickly and easily, and serve as a sound basis for decision-making. As the number of online purchases is constantly growing, users now want the option to compare offers and service providers in e-commerce. The idea is to present this comparison in the same way as on the existing pages, while offering the same added value in terms of information. Since first starting out comparing health insurance schemes 20 years ago, the offering listed on comparis.ch has continued to develop and increase. Users can now compare rates and services relating to health care schemes, insurance policies, banks, telecommunication providers, real estate, cars and motorcycles.

The Solution

The company became aware of the demand for an online shop comparison tool through both further development measures and customer requests. The aim was therefore to build a platform for comparing various products from different e-commerce sites, where users could be taken directly to the provider’s website if they wished. It was important that the new price comparison tool would be seamlessly integrated into the existing website and that it was designed in a way that made it easy for users to take advantage of this feature. Their ideal Managed Cloud provider had to offer a stable platform for a new application that was to be available at all times and never go offline, even when used by numerous individuals at once. Also, comparis.ch asked for a partner that would take on server management from start to finish and that could guarantee a location within Switzerland.

The Result

Nine developed a solution for comparis.ch AG based on a managed cluster system. Since the requirements of comparis.ch could not be met by a standard solution, Nine offered a cluster system. This cluster consists of multiple components that function like a single system and offer excellent availability, stability and flexibility. This makes it easy to adapt and design the cluster according to the requirements of comparis.ch – individual components can be replaced or expanded during runtime without any issues. Nine took on all aspects of server management for comparis.ch AG. This included an analysis of the application “Price Comparison”, an assessment of the needs and targets set by comparis.ch AG, as well as an evaluation of their business model and target audience. This meant that the collaboration could start during the conception phase of the project, thereby ensuring business continuity and continuous resource optimisation.

«Our collaboration with nine went off without a hitch. The servers run very smoothly, and all support requests were resolved quickly. This continues to be the case today. Communication about new products and new versions works well too, which means we are always up to date on all changes.»

Root Server – maximum independence and root access

With our Root Servers, the Swiss Red Cross achieves maximum independence based on an efficient infrastructure.

Humanitarian Organization
Website
Date
October 2021

The Challenge

The Swiss Red Cross (SRC) has been among Nine’s customers since 2013 and the provider runs its internal ICT, as well as various Managed Server systems for its homepage redcross.ch and other subdomains. In its search for a Swiss provider to operate its course management platform in 2014, Nine’s professionalism, performance and exciting portfolio appealed to the SRC.

The Solution

Choosing a Root Server was self-explanatory in this context, as the course management platform required specific modules that could not be implemented on a Managed Server. Dedicated Root Servers and the latest software allowed the second-largest course provider in Switzerland to process 1 million visitors per year without issue, while maintaining maximum availability, especially at weekends, in the evenings or during holidays, when most visitors search for information on first-aid or babysitting courses, or eduction in the areas of nursing and care.

The Result

Nine’s Root Servers provide customers with full root access to a dedicated machine, giving them maximum independence. This means that e.g. Apache or DNS can be installed and managed at will. To maximise freedom of choice, there are various operating system options to choose from. Nine can either install an operating system from its offering, or, in certain cases, the customer installs their own operating system via NetInstaller or IP KVM. The initial setup and configuration of the desired server services are entirely in the hands of the customer and carried out via SSH access. Thanks to a wide range of use cases, Root Servers can be used for any high-performance application. A variety of hardware options means that, for example, additional SSDs for increased performance or more RAM for greater capacity can be installed.

«I really appreciate the very high availability and convenient scaling options. Together with the rapidity of support, this is very impressive. We initially had very specific, technical requirements, which Nine implemented in a highly professional manner and with the right solutions in each case.»

Service Level Agreements (SLAs) – availability guaranteed, any time, anywhere

When outsourcing the hosting of www.mobiliar.ch and other web projects as part of its brand relaunch, la Mobilière was looking for a high availability solution that included monitoring the platform and application.

Client
la Mobilière
Industry

Website
Date
October 2021

The Challenge

The update of the la Mobilière brand and the overhaul of the full online product range signalled a new direction for the company. To make sure that customers would also benefit from the new approach, la Mobilière needed a solution with guaranteed high availability during 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Solution

Website hosting – previously managed by the internal IT department at la Mobilière – was to be outsourced with the 2015 relaunch. In addition, information was to be completely restructured, a new CMS introduced, previous stand-alone microsites integrated into the main website, and three separate domains (one per language) were to be split out from a single domain. In addition to the above changes, it was also important for la Mobilière to find a reliable and highly available solution that not only guaranteed uninterrupted runtimes, but also one which allowed an immediate response in an emergency. The chosen Managed Cloud provider was to offer continuous monitoring of the platform itself, as well as the applications running on it, and guarantee 24/7 service availability. Furthermore, the client asked for a sound cooperation with Liip AG to implement the web development.

The Result

The requirements defined by la Mobilière could be fully met by Nine by adding a service level agreement as an additional option to the managed setup. Platform monitoring is a part of the server management and thus generally included in all managed setups. The service level agreement supplemented this with additional application monitoring, employing a string check to regularly validate defined parameters. This ensures that Nine is always on top of any disruption on the la Mobilière platform, and can respond immediately – regardless of whether the platform or the application causes the error. To guarantee the availability of la Mobilière’s online presence, the Service Level Agreement included further terms. Among them were, for example, a guaranteed response time, preferential treatment in case of a serious incident, and a guaranteed availability of 99.9%. Cooperating with Liip agency as part of the customer’s requirements was unproblematic for Nine. The two companies had successfully completed projects together in the past, and were able to draw on their working relationship when working on the la Mobilière project.

«Nine is quick and uncomplicated – just like la Mobilière itself. The collaboration was enjoyable, and we appreciate the professional way they worked. But we found the direct and open lines of communication with nine to be just as important.»

Container technology – monitoring, testing and deployment at the highest level

New market conditions, new requirements for their product range: containerising their software has opened up new opportunities for CASASOFT AG. Collaborating with a good partner is key for its implementation.

Client
CASASOFT AG
Industry
Real Estate Marketing
Website
Date
October 2021

The Challenge

CASASOFT clients appreciate their modular software solutions, their products’ usability and their fair, fixed price model. The fact that all solutions are exclusively developed in Switzerland, without the help of external partners, instils great confidence in their clients. The focus is on digitalisation and the automation of analogue marketing processes, high software availability and strong data security. In addition, their products aim to be easy to use. A fast reaction time and competent support are a matter of course. When CASASOFT started working with Nine, their CRM solution already had over 4,000 users and had seen great success in the marketplace for several years. Over this time, their requirements for data security and development had changed profoundly, while their client base had grown significantly.

The Solution

To meet these new requirements, it was time for a completely new software solution: «CASAONE». The new approach was to be highly automated from a technical standpoint, to enable the development team to be even faster when delivering new features requested by clients, to significantly reduce time to market, and to guarantee the highest level of resilience. Their Managed Container provider needed to offer a highly-scalable, secure and software-independent solution, as well as a stable, high-performance live environment, non-disruptive feature updates and alternative methods of publication and installation via containerisation. It also needed to allow for continuous and fully automated deployment processes, which would see an automation of any remaining manual steps, optimised testing and monitoring. Furthermore, the client asked for an implementation of methods to improve collaboration within the team. They wanted a Swiss location, a Swiss company, and a straightforward partnership including competent advice and continuous improvements.

The Result

The general goal was for the responsible parties at CASASOFT to be able to implement the solution themselves (migration, etc.), as they already had the basic knowledge required. For Nine, this meant teaching the client any missing know-how as early and as comprehensively as possible. In addition, the necessary resources for running the containers had to be made available. Together, both parties analysed the situation and determined requirements, reviewed the architecture and discussed any general technical questions. Nine provided resources on the cluster and gave advice regarding process automation, installing and running the client’s database on one of our Managed Servers. We also helped with over-the-phone support during the implementation and go-live phase, as well as with a final Q&A sessions.

«Thanks to containerization, we can divide our application CASAONE into small, efficient packages which we can in turn optimize, monitor and scale individually. At the same time, we have been able to optimize our processes and make them leaner, which has led to enhanced transparency for the collaboration between teams, and has improved communication. Nine’s competent advice has enabled a fast implementation.»
