Every company needs someone with a flair for numbers. An expert who has debtors and creditors under control and works closely with the other teams. Find out what Daniela’s everyday life as Head of Finance – including her additional role as co-responsible for ISO audits – looks like at Nine in our interview with her. ⬇️
Elena: Hello Daniela, thank you for taking the time and talking to me!
Daniela: Hi Elena, of course, nice to see you!
How long have you been working for Nine and why did you choose us as your employer?
I started at Nine in the middle of the lockdown on 1st January 2021. I chose Nine because I found the mixture of a modern IT company and at the same time processes that had not yet been optimised in terms of finance and controlling exciting. I enjoy working in multifaceted and responsible positions in an appreciative environment – and that’s what I do get here at Nine.
What does a typical day look like for you? Or is there no such thing as a typical day? 😉
I usually start at 8 o’clock in the morning by checking messages and emails that have arrived. I then download the last day’s bank statement from e-banking and import it into our ERP system so that our customers can look at the current account balance in their cockpit at any time. This is followed by everything that arises in daily business: for example, the creation of accounts receivable invoices or the posting and payment of accounts payable invoices. Once this is done and the basis for up-to-date and correct bookkeeping is in place, I turn my attention to current project tasks. These can be very different, for example analysing specific financial figures, price calculations or adapting processes. This is the part that makes my work varied and very exciting.
You recently took on joint responsibility for our annual ISO audits, why don’t you tell us more about your tasks?
In this area, I take on the more administrative tasks of coordinating between our internal and external auditors, our management and our employees. It’s about ensuring that we comply with all relevant aspects of information security and that our quality management system enables us to provide our customers with top-quality services.
At Nine, you are solely responsible for financial issues and, unlike our engineers, don’t have a large team behind you. How do you deal with this challenge?
I don’t have any technical dialogue within Nine, but that doesn’t mean that I sit alone in my «small chamber» (laughs). I’m in constant dialogue with the management and all the other teams, and – if needed – I can get professional input externally at trainings and workshops.
You have three children, how do you maintain a functioning work-life balance?
Nine allows me to organise my working hours and place of work very flexibly. I usually work in the office two days a week and do everything else from home. But I can also adapt this at short notice and – if a child is sick, for example – switch to working from home or change my working days during holidays. But I also enjoy coming to the office and having a short break as a mum.
Thank you very much for these exciting insights.
You’re very welcome!
