Infrastructure · Two data centres in the Zurich area

Two data centres. One redundant network.

Our production servers and backups are distributed across two separate data centres in the Zurich area, NTS / ColoZüri and NTT Zürich 1. A route-redundant dark fibre ring connects both sites, so a problem at one site doesn’t take down the other.

Sound familiar?

“Our data must stay in Switzerland.”

How our infrastructure helps

All our data centre locations are physically in Switzerland, in Zurich and Rümlang. You’ll find which product runs where under data centre locations on docs.nine.ch.

“A single outage must not stop us.”

How our infrastructure helps

Production servers and backups are distributed across both sites, and a route-redundant dark fibre ring connects them. If part of the ring is disrupted, the remaining parts take over automatically.

“Our regulator asks about the data centre.”

How our infrastructure helps

With the Cert+ option, we run your servers in an ISO 27001 certified data centre at NTT Zürich 1. The operator provides an ISAE 3000 Type 1 report that is relevant for outsourcing under FINMA Circular 2018/3 «Outsourcing – banks and insurers».

“We care about the energy behind our IT.”

How our infrastructure helps

NTS / ColoZüri runs on 100% renewable electricity, NTT Zürich 1 on CO₂-neutral electricity. We compensate our own CO₂ emissions annually, and with ClimateCare you can do the same for your products.

What every site provides

Emergency power

Redundant emergency power systems with diesel generators and batteries.

How both sites work together

  1. 01

    Two separate sites

Production servers and backups are distributed across NTS / ColoZüri and NTT Zürich 1.

  2. 02

    Dark fibre ring

A route-redundant dark fibre ring connects both data centres and exchanges data at 2x 10 Gbps.

  3. 03

    Automatic takeover

If part of the ring is disrupted, the remaining parts automatically take over the data transfer.

Backups

Backups are stored at a separate location, isolated from the other systems. Managed Server backups are encrypted and kept in two separate data centres.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Where are your data centres?
NTS / ColoZüri is in Zurich Altstetten, NTT Zürich 1 in Rümlang in the Canton of Zurich. Both are in Switzerland. Which products are available at which location is listed under data centre locations on docs.nine.ch.
Can I choose the location?
Yes, for many products. For services that communicate with each other, we recommend the same location to keep round trip times short. Different locations make sense if you want higher fault tolerance.
What is Cert+?
An option for regulated customers: we run your servers in the ISO 27001 certified data centre NTT Zürich 1. The operator provides an ISAE 3000 Type 1 report that is relevant for outsourcing under FINMA Circular 2018/3.
Can I visit the data centre?
With Colocation or Server Housing, you can get your own access and reach your rack at any time. How access works at each site is described under data centre access on docs.nine.ch.
Where do I find legal and data protection documents?
In the legal documents on docs.nine.ch, including our technical and organisational measures (TOMs) and the data processing agreement.
