The Challenge

Demokratis is bringing Swiss democracy into the digital age: the independent platform enables digital public consultations and hearings for cantons and public authorities. These government clients set strict requirements: for state processes involving sensitive data, Swiss server locations and full data sovereignty are non-negotiable. Foreign solutions were ruled out from the start. On top of that, there was a technical requirement: several cantons run the platform under their own domains, which requires reliable CNAME-based routing. A specialised requirement that not every PaaS solution covers.

The Solution

Demokratis migrated to Deploio, our Swiss Platform-as-a-Service. The platform now runs entirely on Swiss infrastructure: no CLOUD Act exposure, no FISA risk, nDSG and GDPR compliant. We implemented the custom domain routing requirement for cantonal clients via a dedicated CNAME configuration. For day-to-day operations, the team uses the nctl CLI: feature branches can be deployed as staging apps, tested, and pushed live in one workflow. For technical questions, Demokratis receives direct support via Slack and email: no anonymous ticketing system, no L1 triage.

The Result

Demokratis can focus entirely on its core mission: making public consultations more inclusive and accessible. Infrastructure is no longer a concern. Cantonal clients receive the Swiss data residency their government processes require. The deployment workflow with nctl gives the team the flexibility to iterate quickly: deploy a feature branch, test it, go live. And when something specific is needed, the team behind Deploio is directly reachable.
