The Challenge

The Swiss Red Cross (SRC) has been among Nine’s customers since 2013 and the provider runs its internal ICT, as well as various Managed Server systems for its homepage and other subdomains. In its search for a Swiss provider to operate its course management platform in 2014, Nine’s professionalism, performance and exciting portfolio appealed to the SRC.

The Solution

Choosing a Root Server was self-explanatory in this context, as the course management platform required specific modules that could not be implemented on a Managed Server. Dedicated Root Servers and the latest software allowed the second-largest course provider in Switzerland to process 1 million visitors per year without issue, while maintaining maximum availability, especially at weekends, in the evenings or during holidays, when most visitors search for information on first-aid or babysitting courses, or eduction in the areas of nursing and care.

The Result

Nine’s Root Servers provide customers with full root access to a dedicated machine, giving them maximum independence. This means that e.g. Apache or DNS can be installed and managed at will. To maximise freedom of choice, there are various operating system options to choose from. Nine can either install an operating system from its offering, or, in certain cases, the customer installs their own operating system via NetInstaller or IP KVM. The initial setup and configuration of the desired server services are entirely in the hands of the customer and carried out via SSH access. Thanks to a wide range of use cases, Root Servers can be used for any high-performance application. A variety of hardware options means that, for example, additional SSDs for increased performance or more RAM for greater capacity can be installed.
